What is the Career Network?
It is a searchable web database that allows students and alumni to gain information about people who have agreed to be Career Consultants.
Why a Career Network?
- Learning about the careers others have chosen is helpful to current students.
- Information about the job search process can give both students and alumni assistance as they plan transitions.
- A friendly welcome to a new environment will facilitate the adjustment to a new phase of life.
Who has access to the database?
Current WWU students and alumni may register to gain access to the database. To maintain confidentially a password is needed to access the database. The database can be searched using various criteria: occupational area, employing organization, geographic area, college and graduate degree.
When and how can I contact a consultant?
Consultants will usually be contacted at their offices. Times and places are specified by the consultant, or you can make arrangements for a personal visit if feasible.
What kind of questions can I ask a consultant?
You can ask them career-related questions about how they obtained their current position, what their career paths have been, educational background and skills required for their career area, job outlook for the future, and typical compensation for entry-level positions.
Who should sign up to be consultants?
Consultants are alumni, parents and friends of the University who have agreed to make themselves available to talk to current students or alumni about their jobs and careers. Some of the areas that consultants agree to discuss are:
- Information about careers (not actual jobs) with their particular company or organization.
- Internships and summer jobs.
- Information about housing in their local area.
- Information about local churches (Beyond WWU).
They may also be willing to refer students and alumni to other persons who can be helpful networking contacts.
